District Attorney's Office is recruiting to fill two Victim Witness Advocate positions. One position is an ongoing position at the Victim Witness Advocate I level and the other is a time‑limited position, currently funded through March 31st, 2026, at the Victim Witness Advocate II level depending on qualifications. If you are interested in applying at the level I, you must apply to the separate concurrent recruitments being conducted for that level.

Overview The District Attorney's Office is looking for a Victim Witness Advocate II, who will act as a liaison between the Deputy District Attorney’s and the victims of crime to ensure their voice and rights are upheld. The Advocate will have daily contact with crime victims to provide regular court updates, refer them to community resources, and accompany them to court proceedings. The Advocate assists with submission of California Victim Compensation Applications and compilation of restitution documents.

Responsibilities

Managing an independent caseload

Advocating for victims of crimes and individuals experiencing crisis situations

Prioritizing multiple assignments in a fast‑paced environment

Observing and listening to the needs of the victim

Engaging with a diverse population, the under‑served communities, and immigrants

Representing the division at community events and outreach activities

Qualifications

Multiple years of experience working with victims of crimes

Coursework in Social and Behavioral studies, Sociology, or Psychology

Experience working with individuals who have sustained significant trauma and crisis situations

Experience working with individuals from diverse socio‑economic and/or cultural backgrounds

Understanding of cultural competence and diversity, equity, and inclusion

Knowledge of Latin American history, Asian American and Pacific Island cultural practices, history and studies

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Bilingual skills are highly preferred (English/Spanish, English/Mandarin, English/Korean, English/Punjabi, English/Triki, or English/Polynesian) but not required

Additional Requirements The position requires completion of a 40‑hour advocate training and a series of comprehensive trainings, including shadowing. The role also requires attending outreach events, potentially working some weekends, and after normal business hours.

Background Requirements: Incumbents must pass a criminal background investigation.

License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license at an appropriate level, including special endorsements, is required.
