Victim Witness Advocate I Compensation: Up to $41.64 per hour ($86,907 annually) plus a competitive total compensation package.

Organization: The District Attorney’s Office.

Responsibilities

Act as a liaison between Deputy District Attorneys and victims of crime to ensure their rights and voices are upheld.

Provide daily contact with crime victims, giving regular court updates and referring them to community resources.

Accompany victims to court proceedings.

Assist victims in understanding the criminal justice process.

Submit California Victim Compensation Applications and compile restitution documents.

Manage an independent caseload.

Advocate for victims of crimes and individuals in crisis situations.

Prioritize multiple assignments in a fast‑paced environment.

Observe and listen to victims’ needs.

Engage with a diverse population.

Represent the division at community events and outreach activities.

Qualifications

Multiple years of experience working with victims of crime.

Coursework in Social and Behavioral studies, Sociology, or Psychology.

Experience with individuals who have sustained significant trauma and crisis situations.

Experience with individuals from diverse socio‑economic or cultural backgrounds.

Understanding of cultural competency and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Bilingual skills in English/Spanish desired (not required).

Valid California driver’s license.

Pass a criminal background investigation.

Training & Attendance The position requires completion of 40‑hour advocate training and additional comprehensive trainings, including shadowing court procedures. It also requires attending outreach events and may involve working weekends or after normal business hours.
