About the Role A well-established manufacturer of automated machinery is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their collaborative engineering team. In this hands‑on role, you will design, develop, and refine custom mechanical components, mechanisms, and assemblies used in advanced automated equipment. You’ll work closely with manufacturing, controls, assembly, and service teams to support the full lifecycle of build-to-order systems from concept and design through equipment build, commissioning, and customer acceptance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and refine mechanical designs using established engineering standards and drafting practices.
Design custom mechanisms, assemblies, and machine components based on project requirements.
Integrate auxiliary equipment into machine designs.
Identify and recommend product or process improvements through established internal workflows.
Execute design tasks within defined project scope, budget, and schedule constraints.
Troubleshoot design‑related issues and support corrective actions to keep projects on track.
Support installation, commissioning, and customer equipment acceptance (10‑20% travel).
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Communicate design intent clearly to internal stakeholders and external partners.
Participate in design reviews, project meetings, and process improvement initiatives.
Work closely with manufacturing, controls engineering, assembly, and service teams during machine build and testing.
Provide field support or training as needed.
Professional Growth Engage in ongoing training and development to stay current with technologies, tools, and industry best practices. Contribute to departmental and organizational goals through continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
Experience:
3+ years of mechanical design experience within a build‑to‑order or manufacturing environment.
Experience coordinating project tasks or working closely with cross‑functional teams preferred.
Exposure to design lifecycle platforms and modern engineering software tools.
Advanced technical or leadership training is a plus.
Technical Skills:
Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, drafting practices, and GD&T.
Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo).
Ability to evaluate designs for manufacturability, performance, and reliability.
Experience supporting equipment builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
Certifications:
Professional certifications (e.g., FE/EIT or advanced design certifications) are beneficial but not required.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines; problem‑solving mindset with attention to detail; comfortable working in fast‑paced project environments.
Travel: Approximately 10‑20% travel for customer support, installations, and vendor visits. Must maintain appropriate identification for domestic and international travel.
