Company This role sits within a rapidly expanding, PE backed multi-site services organization operating in a consumer-facing retail/services industry. The company is scaling aggressively through acquisitions and is building out a modern financial infrastructure to support a high-volume, operationally complex environment. The business emphasizes service quality, a people-first culture, and continuous operational improvement across its nationwide footprint.
Purpose of the Position The Controller will be a hands‑on financial leader responsible for strengthening the accounting foundation, improving processes, and supporting the organization’s accelerated growth. This role oversees core accounting functions, partners with leadership on integration efforts tied to frequent acquisitions, and ensures accurate, timely financial reporting across a decentralized network of locations.
Primary Responsibilities
Oversee accounting workflows for a high‑acquisition environment, including activities linked to purchase accounting and post‑close integration across newly added sites.
Direct day‑to‑day accounting operations including general ledger stewardship, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue accounting, and month‑end close activities.
Manage the preparation, review, and consolidation of financial results, ensuring financial information is accurate, complete, and delivered on schedule.
Coordinate all external audit and tax engagements, serving as the central point of contact and ensuring all required documentation is prepared and accurate.
Build and refine accounting policies, internal controls, and workflows that support a multi‑location operating model and improve consistency and scalability.
Develop reporting structures that support debt compliance requirements and deliver visibility into financial performance across 100+ operating units.
Provide leadership and direction to the accounting team, enabling professional development and maintaining strong day‑to‑day execution.
Partner closely with senior leadership—including the CEO, CFO, and COO—on financial strategy, integration priorities, and operational decisions tied to the company’s rapid expansion.
Identify opportunities to modernize financial systems and support the future transition from current accounting tools to a more advanced ERP environment.
Requirements & Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
Must have experience within a Big 4 or Mid Size CPA/Accounting Firm
Approximately 8–15 years of progressive accounting experience, including oversight of core accounting functions in a growing organization.
Must have some sort of hands‑on experience supporting business combinations, purchase accounting, or integration activities within an acquisitive business.
Familiarity with modern cloud‑based ERPs and comfort navigating system upgrades or transitions.
Experience within a multi‑unit, operationally intensive environment is strongly valued.
Ability to build structure, strengthen controls, and elevate accounting processes within a fast‑paced organization.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across operations and executive leadership.
