Professional Development Support
Scope of Role Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Accountant will prepare, reconcile, and close financial accounts, demonstrate a strong understanding of general accounting principles, and support grant‑related financial functions.
How You’ll Succeed
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger operations.
Prepare monthly entries to support accurate monthly and year‑end closing activities, including audit schedules.
Respond to inquiries from the CFO, Finance Director, and vendors.
Identify opportunities for process improvement to increase productivity, quality, and efficiency.
Meet all month‑end closing deadlines.
Provide backup support and oversee AP functions; upload timely and accurate entries of accounts payable invoices.
Review automated check runs, print and distribute vendor checks, and manage interoffice/mailing of checks.
Build professional relationships with vendors and resolve open invoice issues.
Record daily bank transactions and perform monthly reconciliations of the main bank account.
Perform grant‑related award functions, including expense analysis, invoicing, financial reporting, labor distributions, and budget reconciliations.
Work with the operational team to establish grant budgets and support grant applications.
Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for donors.
Maintain financial records related to various local, state, and federal grants.
Ensure compliance with organizational and funding requirements.
Conduct month‑end account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field.
2–4+ years’ experience in an accounting role with superior analytical skills.
Public accounting experience with non‑profit agencies strongly preferred.
Strong attention to detail.
Solid written and verbal communication skills.
Working Conditions
Work typically performed in an interior office environment; remote work possible with required on‑site days.
Hours may include evenings and extended hours.
Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
Hearing, speaking, and vision requirements adequate for client interaction and computer use.
Physical effort: occasional lifting up to 15 pounds.
Possible exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
Repetitive motions and frequently bending, reaching, walking, and standing.
Dexterity needed to operate PC and office equipment.
