Field Tech / Sr. Field Tech - Power Systems Tech I, II, III, or IV Position Summary Field Tech- Power Systems Technicians or NETA Technicians perform service, test, and maintenance of power transmission and distribution equipment.

Duties And Responsibilities

Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform startup, and collect data for low, medium, and/or high voltage (up to 500 kV) electrical systems.

Low, medium and/or high voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.

Inspect, maintain, test, and repair transformers, circuit breakers, and all related equipment—45 kVA to 130 MVA, dry type and/or oil filled.

Maintain, test, recondition, and repair circuit breakers—low voltage 480 V (molded case and air‑magnetic), medium voltage up to 15 kV (air‑magnetic and vacuum).

Operate SF‑6 filled equipment and gas insulated switchgear (desired but not required).

Test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations.

Operate high voltage test equipment, including Doble Power Factor test sets.

Perform startup, troubleshooting, and repair on controls and transfer schemes.

Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly.

All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance with all regulatory laws.

Required Experience and Qualifications for a Power Systems Tech I

High School diploma/GED and minimum 1 year of related experience.

Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.

Prefer experience with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, and start‑up of switchgear up through 500 kV class, or military training (Army, Air Force, Navy).

Adherence to electrical safety procedures.

Good theoretical understanding of electricity and problem‑solving aptitude.

Effective verbal and written communication with customers and peers.

Dependable with good judgment and organizational skills.

Good customer service, time management, and follow‑up skills.

Strong computer skills with Windows and Microsoft Office; internet research for standards and product information.

Valid driver’s license if a company vehicle is used.

Required Experience and Qualifications for a Power Systems Tech II

High School diploma/GED and minimum 2 years of related experience.

NETA Level II Certification.

Independent testing and service work requiring minimal supervision and ensuring self‑safety.

Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.

Adherence to electrical safety procedures including lockout/tagout, arc‑flash, and shock hazard analyses.

Other qualifications identical to Tech I.

Required Experience and Qualifications for a Power Systems Tech III

High School diploma/GED and minimum 5 years of related experience.

NETA Level III Certification.

Mentor and lead Tech I and II operations; manage routine and moderately complex tasks, record keeping, test data evaluation, and safety of others.

Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.

Other qualifications identical to Tech II.

Required Experience and Qualifications for a Power Systems Tech IV

Associate degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5–10 years of related experience.

NETA Level IV Certification.

Lead and mentor all lower‑level technicians, supervise large projects, conduct complex investigations, tests, and evaluations, and prepare written reports.

Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA.

Other qualifications identical to Tech III.

Required Experience and Qualifications for a Sr. Field Tech

High School diploma/GED or equivalent and 5 years of related experience.

Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and industry standards including NETA, OSHA, IEEE, and NFPA.

Strong background in high‑voltage equipment up to 230 kV.

Prefer military training similar to above.

Complete projects on budget and within reasonable contribution limits.

Ability to produce on‑site job reports.

Additional Information Job:

Full‑Time

Location:

Sacramento, CA

Travel:

Up to 70%

Compensation:

Pay range from $25 to $65 per hour for Tech I to IV, plus overtime eligibility. Daily meal and incidentals per diem for overnight travel.

Relocation:

Assistance available for highly qualified candidates.
