Responsibilities
Perform installations, splicing, termination service, test and maintain power transmission and distribution equipment.
Test and inspect low, medium and high voltage (up to 500kV) cable installations, terminations and splices on OEM cables, including 69 KV and above.
Inspect, troubleshoot, start‑up and collect data for electrical systems across voltage levels.
Conduct switchgear and circuit breaker testing, maintenance, reconditioning and repair – 45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry‑type and/or oil‑filled.
Work with SF6‑filled equipment and gas‑insulated switchgear (preferred).
Operate high‑voltage test equipment such as Doble Power‑Factor test sets.
Execute start‑up, troubleshooting and repair of controls and transfer schemes.
Provide on‑call emergency support and respond to customer incidents promptly.
Comply with all regulatory laws and safety standards at all times.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Experience and Qualifications for a Sr. Field Tech High School diploma/GED or equivalent with 5 years of related experience.
Experience in medium‑voltage cable termination, splicing, and installations.
Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and industry standards (NETA, OSHA, IEEE, NFPA).
Proficiency with medium‑ and high‑voltage equipment 69 KV and above.
Familiarity with MCCs, breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, and start‑ups up to 500 kV.
Project completion within budget and on schedule.
Ability to prepare on‑site job reports.
Strong customer, peer, and management collaboration skills.
Computer literacy (Windows, Microsoft Office, internet research for standards).
Valid driver’s license if a company vehicle is required.
Required Experience and Qualifications for a Power Systems Tech III
High School diploma/GED with a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
Performs testing, service work and mentors levels I & II Techs; handles routine and moderately complex projects.
Experience with MCCs, breakers, relay and oil testing, infrared scanning, start‑ups up to 500 kV, and military training (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, Navy).
Knowledge of NETA, NEC, OSHA, NFPA.
Adheres to all electrical safety procedures.
Strong problem‑solving, communication, organization, and customer service skills.
Computer proficiency (Windows, Microsoft Office, internet research).
Valid driver’s license if a company vehicle is required.
Required Experience and Qualifications for a Power Systems Tech IV
Associate degree in a related field or equivalent with 5–10 years of experience.
Performs testing, service work and leads levels I–III Techs; oversees large projects and multiple crews.
Experience with MCCs, breakers, relay and oil testing, infrared scanning, start‑ups up to 500 kV, and military training.
Knowledge of NETA, NEC, OSHA, NFPA.
Adheres to all electrical safety procedures.
Strong problem‑solving, communication, organization, and customer service skills.
