Job Title Transportation Engineer (Civil) – Design

Department Caltrans District 3 – Department of Transportation

Location 500 S. Main St., Bishop, Inyo County (Telework possible; hybrid)

Job Summary Under the direction and supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Transportation Engineer prepares plans, specifications, estimates, design drawings, written documents, and presentations for transportation projects. The role follows the direction of a licensed professional civil engineer (Lead Worker) for project‑related tasks and participates in the Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program.

Responsibilities

Prepare plans, specifications, estimates, and design drawings for transportation projects.

Write documents, presentations, and other related work.

Follow direction of licensed P.E. (Lead Worker) for project‑related tasks.

Participate in the 24–33 month Rotation Program and optional elective assignments.

Assume loan assignments to other project delivery functions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for the classification (Pattern II) and pass the TE Civil written hurdle exam.

Eligibility may require a state examination list and a TE (Civil) exam score.

New‑to‑state candidates will be hired at the minimum salary or alternate range.

Possess a valid driver’s license when operating state vehicles; Range D requires a Civil P.E. license.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) – two pages, typed, 12‑point Arial, answering the specified prompts.

Submit official or unofficial transcripts for education verification.
