We are offering a Veteran Peer Support Specialist position in our Adult Behavioral Health Program.
Position Overview As a Veteran Peer within the Adult Behavioral Health Program, you will hold a market‑based compensation structure with an estimated hourly rate starting at $17.57. Full‑time hours run 8:30 am to 7:00 pm Monday–Thursday and 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Friday, with possible evening and weekend work.
Responsibilities
Deliver peer support services—as per Medicaid guidelines—to individual consumers or groups.
Promote and model recovery, assist consumers in accessing community resources, improving health and wellness, continuing education, and pursuing meaningful work.
Engage in public speaking and committee work within and outside the agency.
Qualifications
Military veteran who is also a mental health consumer committed to personal recovery.
Experience receiving mental health treatment and/or recovery support services.
Preferably completed community mental health services.
Willingness to use personal recovery experience as a vehicle for others’ recovery.
Prepared to share personal stories publicly and in group settings.
Ready to participate in training and supervision to enhance engagement skills.
Valid Michigan driver’s license with a good driving record; able to obtain and retain a Chauffeur’s license per insurance requirements.
Non‑judgmental, culturally competent, and sensitive to veterans and other people with mental illness.
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to interact with the public, and ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
