Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity for a Peer Support Specialist to join our Adult Behavioral Health (ABH) team of talented professionals. Peer Support Specialists for Community Recovery (Peers) are responsible to deliver peer support services, consistent with existing Medicaid guidelines, to individual consumers or groups of consumers. Peers will promote and model recovery and assist consumers in developing skills necessary to access community resources, live more independently, improve their health and wellness, continue their education, and pursue opportunities for meaningful work in their communities. Public speaking and committee work within and outside of the agency are also required.

Compensation & Benefits The estimated salary for this position will vary based on a candidate's transferable work experience and qualifications. This is a salary grade 102. Hourly rates start at $17.57. The range provided is just one component of total compensation including a comprehensive benefit package of affordable medical plans, employer‑paid dental, vision and long‑term disability, 401(K) with employer contribution, flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent, paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and eligibility for biweekly incentives.

Responsibilities

Deliver peer support services consistent with Medicaid guidelines.

Promote and model recovery and assist consumers in developing skills to access community resources, live independently, improve health and wellness, continue education, and pursue meaningful work.

Participate in public speaking and committee work within and outside of the agency.

Maintain regular business hours 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday; be available for evening and weekend hours for special events.

Qualifications

Experience as recipients of community mental health services and willingness to use personal recovery experience to help others.

Willingness to share personal stories of recovery with individuals, groups, and organized public speaking engagements.

Willingness to participate in training and supervision to enhance effectiveness, understanding of recovery, peer support, and self‑determination.

Valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving record; must obtain a Chauffeurs license and meet insurance requirements.

Nonjudgmental, culturally competent approach sensitive to diverse needs of people with mental illness and families.

Ability to establish working relationships with consumers, assist with community resource access, facilitate educational workshops, support groups and recovery‑oriented activities.

Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort interacting with public under broad circumstances.

Organize work and complete tasks within established timeframes.

Willingness to become certified as a Peer Support Specialist in Michigan within six months of hire.

Work Schedule Regular business hours are 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend hours may be required for special agency or community events.
