Key Responsibilities
Design, fabricate, and assemble precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
Perform maintenance, repair, and modification of existing production tooling.
Operate a variety of conventional and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM.
Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to determine specifications.
Conduct precision measurements using metrology equipment to ensure accuracy and quality.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tool performance and production processes.
Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize tool designs and manufacturing efficiency.
Recommended Qualifications
Completion of a recognized Tool Maker apprenticeship or equivalent vocational training/certification.
Proficiency in operating and setting up conventional and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders, EDM).
Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Expertise in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and CMMs.
Solid understanding of various metal properties, tooling materials, and heat treatment processes.
Bonus Qualifications
Proficiency with CAD/CAM software for tool design and programming.
Experience operating advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, optical comparator).
Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
Specialized welding skills (e.g., TIG, laser welding for tool repair/modification).
