The Controller will be a key leader, overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions for the firm's real estate funds and properties, ensuring compliance with both
GAAP
and investor requirements. This position requires deep expertise in
Yardi Voyager
to manage property-level operations, fund accounting, and sophisticated financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Fund Administration:
Manage all aspects of partnership accounting, including complex allocation of profits, calculation of waterfalls, and tracking of
IRR
and other performance metrics.
Capital Transactions:
Direct the calculation, processing, and communication of all investor capital calls and distributions.
Consolidations:
Oversee multi-entity consolidations for fund and investment vehicles, including minority interest structures.
Financial Statements:
Prepare and review audited/unaudited financial statements for the funds and properties in accordance with
US GAAP
or
IFRS .
Yardi System Management & Operations
Expert User:
Serve as the subject matter expert for
Yardi Voyager/Elevate
and related modules (Property Management, General Ledger, Investment Accounting).
System Integrity:
Ensure the financial system's integrity, manage new fund/client onboarding, and optimize Yardi for efficient reporting, bank reconciliations, and expense tracking.
Budgeting:
Collaborate on the development and input of property and fund budgets and forecasts directly within Yardi Voyager.
Financial Oversight and Compliance
Financial Reporting:
Oversee the timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes for the portfolio.
Audits & Tax:
Lead and coordinate the annual financial audits and tax preparation, liaising with external auditors and tax advisors.
Internal Controls:
Develop and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with regulatory and lender requirements.
Leadership and Strategy
Team Management:
Supervise, train, and mentor the property and fund accounting teams.
Strategic Support:
Provide executive leadership with deep financial analysis, variance reports (actuals vs. budget), and cash flow projections to support strategic decision-making and business growth.
Key Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A
CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
is strongly preferred.
Experience:
7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the
Real Estate Private Equity
or Investment Management sectors.
Software:
Required: Advanced, hands‑on expertise with Yardi Voyager (including the Investment Accounting/Fund Accounting module). Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is also essential.
Technical Knowledge:
In‑depth knowledge of
GAAP
and partnership accounting principles.
