Job Description & Duties In the District 5 System Planning Branch, the Associate Transportation Planner (ATP) works under the supervision of the Senior Transportation Planner. The incumbent works independently on more complex assignments to help execute activities that integrate social, economic, environmental, transportation, and land use factors to support implementation of a balanced, multi‑modal State transportation program. Responsibilities include administering, supporting, and helping lead transportation plans, programs, and projects within the transportation planning process related to rail and transit planning. The role may involve multi‑modal system planning, community planning, active transportation, health, climate change, air quality, geospatial data analysis, and economics.

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

Eligibility & Minimum Qualifications Eligibility may be determined by score on the Associate Transportation Planner/Transportation Planner exam. Applicants who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment must be on the state examination list. All applicants must demonstrate possession of the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification.
