Required License/Registration/Certification : Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state RN license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
Physical Requirements : Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50‑100 pounds daily and 25‑50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, sit for long periods; exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, injury from patients or sharp instruments.
Shift : Must be able to work three 12‑hour DAY shifts per week from 7 AM until 7:30 PM; also required to work some weekend and holidays.

Job Summary Registered Nurses in the Chandler 5 Main Acute care area at UK Chandler Hospital provide care to adult patients with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. The 5 Main Chandler Acute care unit provides acute, comprehensive inpatient care for patients suffering from a variety of medical diseases and surgical complications. As a part of this unit, the RN serves as an important component of the medical team. This team is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of multiple medical and surgical disease complications.
Responsibilities
Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate a comprehensive nursing plan of care.
Deliver direct patient care.
Ensure patient satisfaction.
Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant).
Adhere to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
Support collaborative efforts among nursing staff and physicians to increase communication and enhance patient outcomes.
Utilize the nursing process with a comprehensive patient‑centered plan of care.
Preferred Education/Experience BSN + at least 1 year of RN experience preferred.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs and the priority within Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework as well as Swanson’s Caring model; superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills; basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet; ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner with patients and their families, co‑workers and physicians; strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skill; high motivation, proactive and confident in advocating for patients and their families; ability to thrive in a team environment and provide open, honest communication with staff and physicians; exceptional technical skills and proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
