Required License/Registration/Certification Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
Physical Requirements Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. May be exposed to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
Shift Must work TWO 12‑hour NIGHT shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. every Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday, totaling 24 hours per week. Compensation is calculated for 36 hours per week as part of the weekend shift package.
Job Summary Registered Nurses in the Chandler 5 Main Acute Care area at UK Chandler Hospital provide care to adult patients with a wide range of medical/surgical conditions. The unit offers comprehensive inpatient care for medical diseases and surgical complications. As part of the team, the RN diagnoses, treats, and manages patient complications, gives direct patient care, trains nursing assistants, and adheres to university policies, regulations, and patient-centered care models.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Knowledge of Maslow’s Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns, and Swanson’s Caring model; superb direct patient care and critical thinking; basic computer navigation and internet usage; professional communication with patients, families, coworkers, and physicians; strong organization, prioritization, and delegation; self‑motivation, proactive advocacy for patients; and teamwork skills.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No
Preferred Education / Experience BSN and at least 1 year of RN experience.
