Required Licensure & Certification:

Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or an active compact state RN license in good standing. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50–100 pounds daily, and 25–50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. Exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments may occur.

Shift:

Must work TWO 12‑hour night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) every Saturday and Sunday night. This is a Weekend Premium Position (WEPP). Work 24 hours, receive pay for 36 hours at the regular rate.

Job Summary The primary responsibilities include providing comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to University policies and federal, state, and local regulations. This environment supports collaborative efforts among nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and patient outcomes.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Maslow’s eight basic human needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns framework, and Swanson’s Caring model; superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills; basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet; clear professional communication; strong organization, prioritization, and delegation skills; and a proactive, confident approach to patient advocacy. They should enjoy working in a team, provide open, honest communication with staff and physicians, and possess technical skills to work independently as well as in a team.
