Job Description Under the general supervision of the designated supervisor and in collaboration with a clinical overseer, the Medical Assistant assists in delivering high quality, safe clinical care. The MA I performs clerical and clinical duties within the scope of their training, supporting patient care and operational flow.

The MA I organizes work to enhance patient satisfaction and provider efficiency, collaborates with providers for schedule coordination, reviews provider schedule, anticipates patient needs, keeps visits on time, manages same‑day schedule additions, ensures exam rooms are supplied, and supports patient form completion. They follow workflow, standard work, policies, and procedures, delivering empathetic, efficient care that directly impacts patient satisfaction. The MA works with physicians, nurses, other health care providers, and ambulatory support staff, integrating with other disciplines to deliver patient care.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Considerations and Decision Making: understand patient problems, attend to relevant information, and respond carefully.

Provide safe patient care through organized coordination.

Contribute to a culturally competent plan of care and preventive measures.

Deliver age‑specific care.

Perform delegated patient care within scope of practice.

Provide information for assessment of health status; evaluate interventions.

Collaborate, cooperate, and communicate with health care personnel.

Adhere to unit policies, practice guidelines, and ensure patient safety.

Maintain compliance, readiness, and regulatory requirements.

Direct patient care: greet, identify, escort patients; obtain and document history; document vital signs; alert provider of abnormal findings; assist provider with visits and procedures; prepare and label specimens; perform phlebotomy, tests, immunizations, injections, etc.; follow department procedures; assist with minor procedures; document results; administer vaccines and injections; manage non‑controlled medications; perform additional testing, wound care, and quality improvement activities.

Non‑clinical/indirect patient care: pre‑visit planning, organize daily work, participate in huddles, review records for quality measures, prepare documentation, update forms, follow up with patients, confirm lab results, post‑visit work with billing, assist providers with patient panel management, coordinate care plans, track test results, review and enter registry data, maintain EMR, scan reports, manage supplies, send equipment for sterilization, maintain linens, prepare orders, monitor inventory, clean exam rooms, and manage provider inbox.

Administrative support: back‑up administrative assistance; answer provider calls; provide front‑desk coverage; register patients; verify insurance; collect co‑payments; schedule appointments; provide checkout coverage; handle referrals and pre‑authorizations.

Organizational responsibilities: maintain confidentiality; incorporate guiding principles; comply with policies; demonstrate performance expectations; provide customer service; complete mandatory education; pursue lifelong learning; complete special projects.

Education Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or holder of a Medical Assistant Certification (AAMA, CCMA, RMA, NCMA).

Licensure, Certification, Registration Preferred: Certification required upon hire and maintained if not a graduate of an accredited program. Those hired prior to May 28 2017 without certification are grandfathered.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; medical terminology knowledge; problem‑solving and analytical abilities; basic computer skills for clinical information entry and patient registration; critical thinking; good judgement; organizational skills; multitasking and prioritization.

Licensed Nursing Personnel – support in providing quality care.

Physicians and other health care providers – assist with visits, tests, procedures.

Administrative Director, Site Manager/assigned manager, Clinical Manager, Supervisor/Clinical Leader, Primary Care Director of Nursing – supervision and issue resolution.

Other support personnel – inter‑departmental teamwork for patient satisfaction.

Signing Bonus Up to $1,500 in signing bonuses, paid in three installments: one third after 30 days, second after 6 months, third after 1 year. Eligibility requires full‑time status; exempt for part‑time and previous BILH employees.

Pay Range $21.00 - $28.26 per hour.
