Position Overview As an Operations Specialist in Animal Care, your role will be to ensure proper animal care and husbandry is provided for all companion animals and aquatic life in the Pet Care Center (PCC). You’ll be the primary resource regarding animal care and maintenance and support the achievement of the PCC’s budgeted sales and shrink goals. You’ll ensure our merchandising and inventory strategies are executed across the Pet Care Center, with a primary focus on companion animals and aquatic life. You will ensure the efficient and effective operations of the PCC in close partnership with the sales team to meet the needs of guests and their pets. Exhibit a passion for the welfare, health, and proper care of animals and be a positive partner within the whole PCC team.

Position Responsibilities

Strong interest in animal welfare and a high level of knowledge of companion animal and aquatic care.

Ensure all companion animals and aquatic life receive appropriate care, including maintenance, incident reports, and hourly health checks.

Process register transactions to create a great guest experience.

Be proficient within our selling model and support guest interactions as needed.

Ensure merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed for great presentation.

Complete and apply training programs to maintain expertise and educate other PCC partners in animal care and maintenance.

Promote a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.

Adhere to established operational guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Evaluate guest inquiries and refer to the Leader on Duty as needed.

Act as primary resource for guests and PCC partners regarding animal education and care.

Efficiently order companion animals, aquatic life, supplies, and merchandise in partnership with the sales team to maximize sales, margin, and inventory.

Analyze department inventory management data and recommend areas for improvement.

Perform routine housekeeping tasks to maintain the professional image of animal habitats and aquatic areas, including sweeping/mopping floors, dusting, cleaning tanks, and positioning merchandise on shelves.

Ensure proper handling and documentation for all relinquished and adoption animals.

Verify animal maintenance tasks are completed as outlined on Maintenance Schedules.

Participate in all animal and aquatic life related physical inventory counts.

Adhere to and promote established safety and loss prevention procedures.

Perform additional duties and projects as required or assigned, with or without regular supervision.

Basic Qualifications Minimum one year of experience working with and caring for companion animals and aquatic life. Possess a high level of knowledge of companion animals and aquatic life and aptitude for sales techniques. Professional appearance and demeanor, strong interest in animals and their care. Good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

Certification Completion and maintenance of the Petco Animal Care Certification program is required.

Education & Skills High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Demonstrate proficiency in mathematics and basic accounting relationships, and exhibit exceptional communication skills.

Supervisory Responsibility

Ensure the PCC is opened and/or closed in accordance with established P&Ps for SFS operations.

Adhere to and promote established safety procedures for partners, guests, and pets.

Work Environment Primarily indoors with occasional guest carryouts and veterinary visits requiring brief leave of the PCC. Duties may involve bending, kneeling, moving merchandise (up to 50 lbs), and standing for long periods. Requires flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
