Registered Nurse – Nexton Pediatric Specialty Clinic (Full-Time) Job Summary MUSC Children’s Health After Hours Care Nexton is a pediatric outpatient clinic that serves as a walk‑in extension of our pediatric emergency department during hours when most pediatricians are closed. The After‑hours Registered Nurse (RN) is a key member of the care team, working primarily in the pediatric specialty clinic Monday‑Friday and during afternoon & evening hours. This full‑time assignment involves providing patient care, overseeing team members, and collaborating with providers to maintain high‑standard service.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care during after‑hour operations.

Oversee and support clinical team members.

Collaborate with providers to ensure quality, safe, and timely care.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred.

RN licensed by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.

Minimum of one year of registered nurse experience.

RN(s) hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma in nursing must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within four years of the hire or reclassification date.

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.

Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking vitals, administering injections, or conducting exams.

Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.

Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read charts, documents, and monitors.

Auditory ability to effectively communicate and perceive sounds such as alarms.

Stamina to handle long shifts and emotional demands.

Mobility to navigate clinical areas between patient rooms and offices.

Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.

Hours of Operation

Monday – Friday: 1:00 PM – 8:00 PM (After‑hours care)

Weekends & Holidays: 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM (Full‑time RN duty)

Clinic hours Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Primary pediatric specialty clinic)
