SEMI_Rep, Patient Access I – Saint Joseph Mercy Health System Employment Type: Full Time

Shift: Evening Shift

Location: Ann Arbor, MI

Annual Salary: $59,000 – $66,000

Job Summary: Provides patient‑focused customer service by performing outpatient and inpatient registration, insurance verification, collection of patient financial liability payments, and ensuring compliance with Medicare medical necessity, payer pre‑certifications, and referral requirements. Offers general information to hospital users, patients, families, and physician offices.

Responsibilities

Register and verify insurance for outpatient and inpatient patients.

Collect and process patient financial liability payments.

Ensure patients meet financial requirements, including Medicare medical necessity and payer pre‑certifications.

Provide general informational support to patients, families, and physician offices.

Maintain data accuracy in multiple system applications and prepare analytical reports.

Adhere to Trinity Health policies, confidentiality, and safety standards.

Collaborate on performance improvement activities and contribute to program efficiency and patient experience.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA within one year of hire.

Minimum of one year customer service experience; patient access experience preferred.

Minimum of two years hospital registration or insurance verification experience.

Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic coding, and procedural coding.

Ability to explain insurance benefits and secure necessary authorizations.

Additional Qualifications (Nice to Have)

Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems.

Experience in insurance verification and claims processing.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
