Required License/Registration/Certification : Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit ( TWP ), Provisional License or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.

Physical Requirements : Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods; exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from sharp instruments.

Shift : Must work three 12-hour DAY shifts (7AM-7:30PM) totaling 36 hours per week; weekend and holiday work required.

Job Summary Registered Nurses in the Adult Medicine Services Pavilion A provide care for adult patients who are moderately stable with fluctuating acuity. Patient care includes frequent assessment of pulmonary, renal, cardiac, vascular, and neurological conditions. The RN serves as an essential component of the interdisciplinary progressive care team, monitoring physiological condition, performing frequent treatments ordered by the physician, and ensuring a safe transition from intensive to progressive/acute care.

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, teaching, and evaluation of a comprehensive nursing plan of care.

Document patient information accurately and timely.

Teach patients and families about health and wellness and nursing interventions.

Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistant).

Adhere to University policies, federal, state, and local regulations.

Collaborate with physicians and nursing staff to enhance patient outcomes.

Utilize the nursing process and comprehensive patient-centered plan of care.

Qualifications

ADN education; BSN + at least 1 year of RN experience preferred.

Active Kentucky RN license; Temporary Work Permit, Provisional License, or active compact state RN license in good standing.

AHA Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months.

Knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework, and Swanson’s Caring model.

Strong direct patient care, critical thinking, computerized navigation, and internet skills.

Excellent communication and organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.

Highly motivated, proactive, confident, and independent with a strong team orientation.
