Registered Nurse I (Spring 2026 New Grad Blitz) - Main Neuroscience Stepdown and Acute Care Job Summary/Purpose:

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal‑directed nursing care to patients and families using principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the healthcare team to achieve desired outcomes.

Department and Units:

8W Neuro Acute Care : 24‑bed inpatient mixed Neuroscience unit for adult and geriatric patients. Focus on neurosurgical patients including spine surgery, brain tumor resections, surgical stroke patients, with support for the Comprehensive Spine Center program.

9W Neurology/Neuroscience : 23‑bed inpatient General Neurology/Medical Stroke/Epilepsy Monitoring Unit for adult and geriatric patients. Includes continuous epilepsy monitoring and support for Comprehensive Spine Center and Comprehensive Epilepsy Center programs.

9E Neuroscience Intermediate Care : 23‑bed neuroscience step‑down unit caring for adult stroke, neurosurgery, and neurology high‑acuity patients. Staffing ratios 1:3 or 1:4. Certification and training includes NIHS, ACLS, EKG, and unit Magnet goal Stroke Certification.

Schedule:

36 hours per week, 3‑12 hour shifts with variability based on department needs.

Minimum Training and Education:

Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN hire with Associate or Diploma must complete an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain the degree within four years.

Required Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations:

Registered nurse licensure by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or AHA recognized equivalent).

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, work indoors and in temperature extremes. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs unassisted, and perform tasks requiring up to 50 lbs of force.

Good vision and hearing; ability to recognize objects, discriminate colors, and see at various distances.

Capacity to work rotating shifts, overtime, and in a latex safe environment.
