Job Description Summary Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal‑directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.

Units

5W Specialty Acute Care

– MUSC 5 West Main Hospital: 16‑bed adult medical‑surgical unit with transplant recipients and various liver conditions.

6E Stepdown Transplant

– Main 6E Transplant: 22‑bed adult inpatient unit caring for post‑operative solid organ abdominal transplant patients; includes ACLS certification and peritoneal dialysis training.

Additional Job Description Hours Per Week: 36

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: 3–12 hour shifts; shifts vary based on departmental needs.

Minimum Training & Education Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.

Required Licensure & Certifications Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs; work indoors and outside; work in temperature extremes, confined spaces, kneeling positions; perform gross and fine manipulations; lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted; maintain vision, hearing, and sensory functions; work rotating shifts; overtime; latex safe environment; respirator qualified where selected.
