Lactation Consultant Per Diem – Nuvance Health
Provide professional care through direct lactation assessment, intervention, evaluation, education, and follow‑up of breastfeeding women affiliated with Danbury Hospital and in the community. The nursing process is utilized in collaboration with the health care team to implement a plan of care specific to the needs of each breastfeeding family.
Responsibilities
Conduct assessment of breastfeeding dyad in an ongoing & systematic manner, attentive to the physiologic, psychologic, & cognitive status of the patient. 15%
Incorporate the nursing process to develop a plan of care that educates & directs the nursing staff & patient in appropriate management to achieve breastfeeding success. 25%
Collaborate with the health care team to implement a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent & continuous delivery of a plan of care specific to the breastfeeding patient’s needs. 15%
Prioritize consultation/intervention/education based on maternal/infant status, learning needs, length of stay, & available resources. 15%
Utilize an interdisciplinary approach to evaluate the effectiveness of LC interventions, plan of care, & patient progression towards expected outcomes. 15%
Provide breastfeeding support & education to staff & patients within the Danbury Hospital & in the community. 15%
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Minimum Experience: three years
Desired: Masters in Nursing.
Working Conditions
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity
Occupational: Significant occupational risk
Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
