About This Role
The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Veterinary Nurse II to join our dedicated team to help facilitate exemplary patient care and quality customer service. This position provides veterinary support and performs semi‑routine tasks in the Small Animal Surgery section. The employee provides assistance in the care of patients through independently performing technical procedures and administering treatments. Other responsibilities include providing support for a busy receiving or surgery schedule, assisting with teaching, or helping with research projects. Working hours will include Monday‑Friday, 8 am‑5 pm, as well as rotational standby coverage for after‑hours and weekend/holiday emergency procedures.

What You’ll Need to Succeed
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a two‑year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of basic veterinary medical concepts, animal behavior and animal husbandry.
Advanced knowledge of nursing care, service flow, and section requirements.
Ability to handle, restrain, and provide medical treatments to domestic animals.
Ability to multi‑task and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to perform diagnostic procedures.
Ability to work with and provide preventative maintenance for ordinary veterinary medical hospital equipment.
Ability to adhere to appropriate safety procedures.
Ability to work in a high‑intensity environment.
Skilled in time management and prioritizing daily tasks.
Skilled in interpersonal communication, written and oral.
Skilled in basic computer skills.
Ability to train other employees.
Be willing to master new techniques.
Other Requirements
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
The College of Veterinary Medicine requires that new hires obtain a Kansas license as a Veterinary Technician within six months of employment. Advancing staff must have obtained their Kansas license as a Veterinary Technician prior to advancement.
