Nurse Practitioner I - Night Shift

UCI Health . This position is in the Department of Surgery and involves the management and coordination of inpatient care for surgical patients, primarily at a new hospital in Irvine, California. The surgical services include colorectal surgery, ENT, general surgery, gynecology, hand, minimally invasive, plastic, surgical oncology, thoracic, urology, vascular, and care across all levels, including the ICU. Duties include consults, inpatient care and management, evaluating care, ordering diagnostics, creating treatment plans, and participating in sign out/hand-off with surgery teams and residents/attending physicians. The NP I will be involved in rounding, communicating with surgical teams, managing surgical consultations, resuscitations from the ED and ICU, coordinating procedures, admitting and discharging patients, and reviewing critical labs and patient histories. The role requires advanced medical knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound judgment, professional communication, compliant documentation, and ongoing professional development and competency validation. Inpatient care involves multidisciplinary coordination and education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians. NP with RNFA may assist in the operating room in collaboration with surgeons and the surgical team. This position is represented by the California Nurses Association (CNA). The NP will operate within the scope of practice, including management of chronic and acute conditions and procedures as permitted by privileges. Credentialing and privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. The NP is accountable to the supervising/collaborating physician and administrative leadership. Required to be Successful
includes obtaining UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire, effective cross-functional relationships, diplomacy with physicians and staff, strong communications, customer service, and privacy/compliance with PHI rules. Current California RN license, NP license, Furnishing license and DEA, NPI, NP national certification (AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG), BLS/ACLS, and within six months ATLS. Preferred: MS Office familiarity, trauma/critical care experience, and knowledge of UC policies. Qualifications & Requirements
Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license. Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license. Current, active, unrestricted Furnishing license and DEA registration. Active National Provider Identifier (NPI). NP National Board Certification (AGACNP-BC or ACNPC-AG). Current BLS and ACLS certification; ATLS within six months of hire. Preferred: trauma/critical care experience; familiarity with Windows and MS Office. Responsibilities
Provide inpatient care and management for surgical patients; perform consults and follow-ups. Order diagnostics, create and implement treatment plans; participate in sign out/hand-off. Round, communicate with surgery teams, residents, and attending physicians; coordinate procedures and admissions/discharges. Triage patient calls; review labs and results; obtain medical histories; conduct initial and daily exams.
