Job Overview Direct and supervise federal and international tax compliance, federal tax audits and financial reporting for MBNAC and subsidiaries; support tax accounting processes and deadlines; assist with the transition of the tax department from Michigan to Atlanta.
Responsibilities
Supervise the consolidated federal tax compliance and financial reporting process, ensuring accurate preparation, review and timely submission of tax returns and payments in compliance with U.S. laws and regulations, and meeting financial reporting requirements (50%).
Lead special projects and transactions to optimize tax position and reduce risk; monitor tax legislation and research impact to Mercedes; coordinate with subsidiary locations (10%).
Serve as liaison for IRS audits, ensuring complete and timely responses to auditor requests and issue resolution (10%).
Support tax accounting processes including interim reporting, provisions and audit requests (10%).
Ensure compliance with Mercedes global policies; supervise internal control testing for federal tax compliance and financial reporting (5%).
Assist management with transition and transformation of the tax department in Atlanta, reviewing processes, setting up procedures and staffing the team (15%).
Qualifications Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
7+ years of work experience with a Big 4 or regional accounting firm and/or corporate tax department.
Knowledge of corporate tax compliance and familiarity with accounting for income taxes.
Senior or supervisory experience preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
MS in Taxation, Business or LLM in Tax preferred.
Certification Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
Skills
Knowledge of U.S. tax law and compliance processes.
Understanding of IAS 12, IFRS/GAAP.
Strong analytical and accounting judgment skills.
Effective research and communication abilities.
Leadership and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
Proficiency in SAP, Corptax, Adobe and Microsoft Office preferred.
Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills with problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
