Job Overview Responsible for directing and supervising federal and international tax compliance, federal tax audits and financial reporting requirements for Mercedes-Benz North America (MBNAC) and Subsidiaries. Support tax accounting processes and deadlines. Assist with the transition of the tax department from Michigan to Atlanta.
Responsibilities
Supervise the consolidated MBNAC federal tax compliance and financial reporting process. Ensure accurate preparation, review and timely submission of tax returns and tax payments in compliance with US laws/regulations. Ensure financial reporting requirements are met including tax forecasts & provisions, contingency analysis and cash planning. Communicate and collaborate on tax topics. (50%)
Support department special projects and transactions to optimize the tax position and reduce tax risk. Monitor tax legislation. Research and evaluate tax topics and impact to Mercedes. Coordinate with subsidiary locations. (10%)
Supervise IRS tax audits for MBNAC & Subs and be liaison with the audit team. Ensure complete and timely responses to auditor requests and issue resolution. (10%)
Support and assist with tax accounting processes including interim reporting, provisions, deferred proof, provision to return and financial statement audit requests. (10%)
Ensure IAS compliance with Mercedes global policies. Supervise IAS process and annual documentation/testing for federal tax compliance and financial reporting. (5%)
Assist management with transition and transformation of the tax department in Atlanta including review of compliance processes, set-up of procedures, and staffing the team. (15%)
Qualifications Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. at the time of application. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
Must have 7+ years of work experience with a Big 4 or regional accounting firm and/or corporate tax department
Must have knowledge of corporate tax compliance and familiarity with accounting for income taxes
Experience in a Senior/Supervisory role preferred
Education
Bachelor’s Degree (accredited school) with emphasis in Accounting or Finance required
MS in Taxation or Business or LLM in Tax preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required
Skills
Knowledge of US tax law and tax compliance processes.
Understanding of IAS 12 and IFRS/GAAP.
Ability to evaluate financial statement data, accounting transactions and internal controls.
Ability to effectively research tax issues to determine treatment and impact.
Ability to guide team members and work with cross functional groups.
Knowledge of SAP, Corptax, Adobe and Microsoft Office preferred.
Excellent analytical, organization and communication skills in addition to ability to solve problems and make decisions.
