Salary Range: $65,000.00 To $68,000.00 Annually
The Marcus Jewish Community Center is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Staff Accountant. The Staff Accountant supports the Controller in carrying out the day-to-day accounting responsibilities of the finance/accounting department. The candidate will assist in month-end close activities, cash application, accruals, reconciliations, and customer service. An understanding of GAAP is essential, and this position requires someone who is a problem-solver, process oriented, organized, and understands the importance of accuracy and collaboration. The ideal candidate will possess an exceptional level of ethical and analytical skills and demonstrate a passion for learning and financial accuracy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare and input journal entries and maintain proper related documentation for several subledger systems.
Prepare and input cash receipts
Prepare general ledger account reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts
Perform monthly bank reconciliations
Prepare a reconciliation of Development transactions
Maintain an organized list of restricted funds and manage their timely release.
Analyze general ledger accounts, preparing adjusting journal entries as required
Prepare monthly sales tax and excise tax returns
Prepare daily bank deposits.
Serve as back- up for Accounts Receivable function, as necessary, including billing inquiries; member account receipts; member account reconciliations
Assist in preparation of external audit
Assist in development and implementation of internal controls, accounting policies and procedures
Perform other accounting, analytical or administrative tasks as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Minium of 3 years’ experience in an accounting role
Experience working in non-profit accounting
Understanding of GAAP and FASB standards
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, excellent with Excel (Pivot Tables and formulas)
Proven ability to work collaboratively
Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities while maintaining accuracyAbility to meet challenges with creativity and solutions-focused mindset
Experience with Traction Rec, SAGE Intact, TOAST or CampMinder, a plus
