About the Position Chesterfield Employment Services (CES) is currently seeking a Van Driver to provide transportation services to and from work for those that are being supported with employment services. Each day presents itself differently! The role involves driving a multi-passenger bus or van, assisting passengers, and ensuring safe, reliable transportation.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; one year of experience driving a multi-passenger vehicle preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of safe driving practices, basic vehicle maintenance, and operating multi-passenger and paratransit vehicles. Ability to interact courteously with passengers and communicate effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred.
Additional Requirements Current valid driver’s license and good driving record. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out‑of‑state driving records must be obtained and presented at interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
Pre‑employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required. The position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing. The use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited.
Duties
Transport individuals with developmental disabilities to and from work sites.
Assist non‑ambulatory passengers in loading and unloading using a wheelchair lift.
Assist regularly assigned routes and schedules; immediately report delays to dispatch.
Maintain order while transporting passengers; monitor interactions and intervene as necessary.
Perform pre‑trip vehicle inspections (fluid levels, tire wear and pressure, lights).
Inspect general vehicle maintenance and report or coordinate maintenance needs.
Follow emergency procedures in the event of accident or breakdown.
Maintain mileage, trip logs and other related records.
Perform other work as required.
Position open until filled (first review to begin January 5, 2026).
Shift Varies Monday – Friday: 4:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. or 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
