Overview
The Surgical Technician will assemble supplies for surgical procedures, set up and maintain the sterile field, pass surgical instruments, and assist in room preparation. This professional nursing role will coordinate care for the surgical case with the surgeon, nurses, and other team members to provide optimal patient outcomes and will work collaboratively with clinic providers, fellows, and staff. Strong communication is required.
Responsibilities
Ensures availability of appropriate instrumentation, supplies and equipment for assigned cases.
Prepares the operating room for upcoming cases with the appropriate equipment.
Ensures instruments are cleaned, arranged and transported to the soiled workroom according to department policy.
Independently assists with instrument reprocessing tasks when time permits.
Prepares operating rooms for the following day’s cases.
Utilizes available communication tools and demonstrates teamwork by offering assistance to other team members.
Shares knowledge and expertise with other staff and attends departmental in-services and educational offerings.
Incorporates new knowledge and skills into actual clinical practice and may perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Graduate of an accredited Scrub Technologist program OR 2 years of surgical scrub tech training (military).
Ability to follow oral instructions, read and write.
Preferred Qualifications:
Scrub Tech Certification
1 year of operating room experience
Additional Information:
Staff must be fitted for, and capable of donning, PPE including N95, PAPR, or CAPR.
