Job Description And Duties Under direction of the Area Senior Construction Engineer (a Senior Transportation Engineer), the incumbent will perform a wide variety of difficult and complex transportation engineering work. Serves as the licensed professional resident engineer on construction projects. Will assign work, give instructions, and make decisions on difficult engineering and administrative problems in connection with directing work on various transportation projects.

Special Requirements
Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.
This position requires authority granted under section 5-1.01 “Authority of the Engineer” of the Standard Specifications. To be granted said authority, the incumbent must possess a valid Professional Engineer license.
Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required. The SOQ serves as documentation of each applicant's ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and 12-point Arial font. Resumes and cover letters will not substitute for the SOQ.

Effectively communicate through both verbal and written communication. Communicate with Contractors to provide direction and resolve conflicts. Accurately prepare formal letters, technical and complex reports, and document conversations, meetings, and events.
Effectively manage time, balance multiple tasks and projects, prioritize to meet deadlines, maintain well-organized project files, and work independently.
Recognize potential conflicts and issues, work with diverse personalities, and resolve conflicts.
Quantify Years Of Experience And Describe Your Experience
Administering highway construction contracts, in compliance with the Construction Manual, Standard Plans and Specifications, ensuring materials and construction methods meet contract requirements.
Interpreting plans and specifications, performing calculations pertaining to highway construction, reviewing submittals, writing Change Orders, and making sound engineering recommendations.
Leading a construction project team to complete projects successfully, delegating tasks, and providing direction to team members.
Developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships and being an effective team member.
Possession of a CA Professional Engineer License (If not currently licensed, indicate examinations started or expected date).
Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If you are basing eligibility on education, include unofficial transcripts/diploma for verification. Unofficial, original, or official sealed transcripts may be required upon appointment. Foreign transcripts/degrees require a U.S. equivalency evaluation. Analytical ability to determine if construction work meets specification requirements and to interpret plans and specifications
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to concentrate, strategize, multi-task, adapt to changing priorities, and complete complex tasks on short notice
Ability to resolve emotionally charged issues reasonably and diplomatically
