About the Role The main function of a Software Design Engineer in Test is to develop, implement, and document all testing activities, including test planning, test documentation, test execution, defect tracking and reporting, including follow‑up and issue resolution.

Job Responsibilities

Execute test plans, scenarios, scripts or procedures

Test system modifications to prepare for implementation

Develop testing programs that addresses areas such as database impacts, software scenarios, or usability

Document software defects, using a bug tracking system, and report defects to software developers

Identify, analyze and document problems with program function, output, online screen or content

Monitor bug resolution efforts and track successes

Create or maintain databases of known test defects

Plan test schedules or strategies in accordance with project scope or delivery dates

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering or related field required

5–6 years experience required and proficient in C, C++, C# and scripting

Experience testing software

Experience writing test documentation such as Test Plans, scripts and test results reports

Ability to analyze/interpret test results and provide recommendations to improve testing

Purpose of the Team: The purpose of this team is to support Windows Storage and File Systems, maintaining and improving testing infrastructure for storage components.

Key Projects: This role will contribute to debugging and fixing legacy tests, reducing test noise, identifying product vs. test bugs, and converting older tests (e.g., WTT) into modern platforms.

Best vs. Average: The ideal resume would contain solid C/C++ debugging ability, PowerShell experience, and any domain knowledge in storage systems (preferred but not required).

Typical day in the role Review test runs, triage issues and sort out product bug and test bug. Open incidents for both and address test bugs to ensure we have good product quality signals. Follow up with developers on high impact product bugs, fix low hanging bugs.

Candidate should have strong C, C++, C# experience, Scripting experience will be very valuable.

Salary Range $130,000–$140,000 annually — factors that may affect pay include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
