Position Overview The Department of Corrections (DOC) seeks a driven, collaborative Psychological Services Specialist (PSS) for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Coal Township. The role supports the mental health and well‑being of the inmate population and promotes successful community reintegration.
Responsibilities
Deliver independent psychological services and group therapy to inmates.
Conduct individual interviews and select, administer, and interpret appropriate assessments (intellectual capacity, personality, aptitudes, achievement levels).
Coordinate professional staff services and facilitate referrals for counseling, psychological, psychiatric, and medical care where needed.
Write and prepare a variety of psychological reports, including classification, clinical interview results, parole summaries, psychological updates, and evaluations.
Collaborate with the Licensed Psychologist Manager to develop new departmental educational/therapeutic programs and provide initial crisis intervention as required.
Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
Scheduling options: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Sunday–Thursday or 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Tuesday–Saturday (30‑minute lunch).
Eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
No telework option available for this position.
Annual salary for new Commonwealth employees: $67,736.00 (before taxes).
Additional pay may be considered for qualified Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Professional Counselor license holders.
Qualifications
Two years as a Psychological Services Associate Corrections (or equivalent federal title).
Master’s degree in psychology or a closely related field with fifteen graduate‑level credits in psychology; plus two years of supervised experience under a licensed psychologist.
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
Meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
Pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements.
