Senior Accounting Technician (Medical Billing Specialist)
We are seeking a detail‑oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join the Mental Health Support Services (MHSS) Accounts Receivable Program at the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office. The candidate will manage the billing process, ensure accurate coding, and submit claims to Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurers.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field.
Two years of technical‑level accounting or bookkeeping experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred: two or more years as a Medical Billing Specialist and certification in medical billing/coding.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
Proficiency with automated accounting systems and Microsoft Office.
Strong communication and customer‑service skills.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment and meet deadlines.
Preferred: experience with payer protocols, electronic health records, and Availity.
Additional Requirements Pre‑employment drug testing, FBI background check, and degree verification are required.
Duties
Submit claims with proper coding.
Review claim lists to identify denials or rejections.
Research and correct claims for resubmission or appeal.
Contact insurance companies for claim denials.
Use payer portals and third‑party sites such as Availity for claims research.
Follow up on collections and ensure timely reimbursement of outstanding charges.
Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits.
Perform other related work as required.
Shift & Work Location Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Work Location: Mental Health Support Services.
