Job Overview The Design Engineer will be responsible for developing and optimizing product designs to ensure efficient, cost‑effective, and high‑quality manufacturing. This role will collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams including Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure designs meet performance requirements while also aligning with manufacturing capabilities and production scalability.

The Design Engineer will play a key role in evaluating materials, processes, tolerances, and assembly methods to reduce waste, improve product reliability, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Lead design efforts with a strong focus on manufacturability, assembly optimisation, and cost efficiency.

Review product designs and engineering documentation to ensure alignment with manufacturing capabilities and production processes.

Conduct DFM/DFA reviews and provide clear, actionable feedback to engineering and product development teams.

Work with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to evaluate production methods, materials, and tooling requirements.

Identify and implement improvements to reduce manufacturing costs, scrap rates, and cycle times while maintaining quality standards.

Perform tolerance analysis, root‑cause problem solving, and design updates based on test and production feedback.

Support new product introduction activities from prototyping through mass production.

Create and update engineering drawings, models, specifications, and BOMs using CAD and PLM tools.

All other duties assigned.

Required Skills And Attributes

Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or similar).

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, moulding, casting, metal fabrication, and assembly.

Experience working with suppliers and production facilities to resolve technical issues and improve manufacturability.

Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, material selection, and cost analysis.

Strong communication, collaboration, and technical problem‑solving skills.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in product design or manufacturing engineering with a strong emphasis on DFM principles.
