Position: Highway Mechanic Supervisor (Specialist) Department: Transportation – Division of Equipment (DOE) Classification: CALTRANS HIGHWAY MECHANIC SUPERVISOR Salary: $6,874.00 – $8,137.00 per month (minimum for new‑to‑state candidates) Final Filing Date: 1/8/2026 As a supervisor, you will oversee contractor installation and repair of GPS hardware on automotive, construction, and highway maintenance equipment. You will also assist with training, budgeting, and maintenance of state fleet vehicles while ensuring workplace safety and compliance with state regulations. Responsibilities

Supervise contractors and field shop personnel in the installation, repair, and maintenance of GPS equipment. Establish training programs, implement departmental policies, and prepare equipment and labor budgets. Determine diagnoses, plan repairs, and manage the use and transportation of equipment. Act as lead in the absence of the Telematics – SSMI. Ensure workplace safety, maintain vendor relationships, and coordinate with district personnel to prolong equipment life. Collaborate with other state agencies to promote economical use of equipment. Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate the following: Experience supervising mechanics, technicians, and vendors. Hands‑on knowledge of heavy‑duty equipment, fleet vehicles, diagnostics, and telematics. Understanding of state and federal fleet regulations and the ability to enforce compliance. Strong communication skills for explaining technical information to non‑technical staff and external vendors. Minimum qualifications are detailed in the Class Specification. A valid Class C driver’s license is required when operating a state vehicle. Eligibility
