Responsibilities

Perform a variety of transportation engineering tasks related to the District’s pavement and materials engineering program.

Act as a lead worker to assign, schedule, and coordinate the work of Transportation Engineering Technicians in the laboratory.

Conduct engineering work related to the District Materials Laboratory, including field investigations, plant inspections, certifications, and preparation of final reports regarding laboratory test results.

Working Conditions Location: 2201 Kitty Hawk Road, Livermore, CA 94551, Alameda County. Employees work in a climate‑controlled office under artificial lighting, may be required to travel and work outdoors, and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, extreme heat or cold. Occasional or infrequent overnight travel may be required for training and/or meetings. Telework is possible, subject to departmental discretion and current telework policy.

Minimum Requirements

Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle.

Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required; provide a 1‑page, 12‑point Arial font statement.

Eligibility on the state examination list (new‐to‑state candidates must be on the list). Transfer, reinstatement, or training eligibility may also apply.

Completion of the State Examination/Employment Application (STD 678).

Desired Qualifications

Valid California driver’s license and willingness to conduct business travel as required.

Ability to move large reports or plans and perform occasional bending, stooping, and kneeling.

Strong written communication skills and ability to adapt to changing priorities and complete tasks or projects with short notice.

Demonstrated problem‑solving, analysis, and reasoning abilities.
