Summary of Job Duties The Patient Services Associate (PSA) works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse(s) (R.N.) and performs tasks and duties that do not require a license, professional judgment, or intervention. The PSA must pass the required competencies and work within the Department of Nursing standards.
Responsibilities
Assist patients with direct patient care.
Accept direction from RN and team members and follow through on delegated patient care activities.
Provide appropriate grooming/oral hygiene and comfort measures and assist patients with mobility‑related activities.
Accurately and promptly document all patient care tasks, vital signs, ADL, wave tests, and I & O’s per unit and department standards.
Obtain patient report and communicate with RN regarding patient care.
Inform the nurse of patient requests or complaints.
Carry out the Plan of Care for the patient using a Multidisciplinary Approach delegated by the Team Leader.
Communicate effectively with other team members to facilitate patient care.
Assist patients and visitors with information and/or solutions to problems. Serve as a resource to support department members in performing duties.
Notify appropriate staff of problems requiring prompt intervention.
Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
Transport patients to other areas of the hospital as directed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED plus 1 year of patient care in a health‑care setting.
Must be able to lift 100 lbs. to waist height.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous patient care technician experience.
Patient care experience in an acute‑care setting.
Certification as a nursing assistant or military corpsman.
Additional Information Employees in this role must be fitted for, capable of donning, and performing routine tasks in personal protective equipment, including N95 masks, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR), or Controlled Air Purifying Respirators (CAPR).
Salary Information Commensurate with education and experience.
