The Maintenance Technician I (Groundskeeper) performs various manual duties in maintaining and developing campus grounds, drives, walkways, parking areas, and designated off-campus properties. This position ensures the University’s outdoor spaces are safe, attractive, and well-maintained, supporting a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain campus grounds, walks, and drives by removing trash, garbage, and debris to ensure a clean and orderly environment.
Perform lawn care and landscaping tasks, including seeding, fertilizing, planting, watering, weeding, trimming, and grooming lawns, shrubbery, and trees.
Operate various grounds maintenance equipment such as power mowers, edgers, power blowers, and related machinery.
Operate light and medium-weight trucks and tractors, including attachments, to transport materials and maintain grounds as needed.
Load, unload, and transport furniture, supplies, and other materials to designated locations using appropriate equipment.
Inspect and maintain groundskeeping equipment and vehicles daily to ensure they are safe and in proper working order.
Perform other related duties as assigned. Conduct periodic quality checks of buildings, equipment, and systems to ensure everything is up to standard;
Qualifications
Ability to safely operate and maintain lawn equipment such as push and riding lawnmowers, weed eaters, trimmers, edgers, and blowers.
Basic mechanical skills to perform routine maintenance on grounds equipment
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various outdoor weather conditions

Physical Requirements
Work Environment:
The Maintenance Technician I (Groundskeeper) is physically demanding and requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions. A successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and a commitment to maintaining the University’s landscape to a high standard of appearance and safety.
Lifting Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Mobility : Frequent: standing, walking, bending, squatting, lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching above shoulder level, operation of machinery and vehicles. Occasional: sitting, climbing, kneeling, crawling
Manual Dexterity:
Required fine finger movements and the ability to handle objects with precision and accuracy.
Vision Requirements:
Includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus – visual acuity required for reading documents.
