About the Role
Sr. Shop Trailer Mechanic – dedicated on‑site shop position performing certified DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections and light and advanced repairs on trailers and tractor‑trailer vehicles. Lead on job sites, act as a consultant for customers and perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs. Responsibilities
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a shop environment. Conduct routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, lubricating equipment and performing minor adjustments on trailer systems. Use hand tools, precision instruments, welding equipment, lifts and jacks to repair and fabricate trailer components. Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued device and Karmak application, including uploading pictures and completing DOT forms. Adhere to all safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT). Communicate with the Service Writer and Shop Manager to assess customer needs, provide information and discuss repair estimates. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, assist in cleanup at the end of each day and keep tools and parts organized. Perform advanced diagnostics, triage complicated repairs and support Shop Trailer Technicians I/II with diagnostics and parts procurement. Participate in and complete all company‑required safety training. Maintain assigned service trucks, conduct safety checks and perform pre‑post trip inspections. Requirements
High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 5 years experience in a related field; alternatives accepted (e.g., a degree or certification beyond HS and 3 years experience, or 7 years experience). Possession and supply of necessary hand tools. Preferred OEM training and certifications. Valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File. Must be at least 21 years old. Candidate must successfully pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or provide a DOT medical card with at least 4 months validity). Required Certifications (or Obtain Within 18 Months)

Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including design, repair and maintenance. Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand and walk for long periods and perform moderately heavy labor. Physical endurance to perform repetitive tasks without tiring. Strong judgment and problem‑solving skills using logic and reasoning. Excellent communication skills for two‑way interaction with customers and coworkers. Ability to identify the type of tools and equipment needed for each job. Benefits
