Responsibilities
Teach 30 credit hours per academic year (in-person day and evening classes, synchronous or asynchronous online modalities).
Maintain 10 office hours per week.
Participate in departmental administrative responsibilities and committee assignments related to college governance, student support, and success.
Teaching assignments may include classes on the main campus as well as at off-site centers and with dual-enrolled students in Early College programs, the CTE Academy, or the Governor’s STEM Academy.
Perform other assigned duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum of a master’s degree in biology or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in biology; PhD preferred.
Proficiency and willingness to teach undergraduate biology courses across college’s degree programs.
Proficiency in incorporating new and emerging pedagogies in the classroom.
Effective and engaging teaching skills, both in person and online.
Ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population.
Prior teaching experience in the community college environment and dual-enrolled students preferred.
Additional Considerations
No required travel.
No supervision of employees.
Operation of a State Vehicle not required.
May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Travel/Duties Duties may involve travel to teach at off-site centers in Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell County.
