Overview
State of New Hampshire, Department of Military Affairs and Veterans Services is recruiting a full‑time Equipment Operator for the Pease Air National Guard Base in Portsmouth, NH. The position carries a standard 40‑hour work week and offers a trainee opportunity and comprehensive benefits.
Pay Range
Base: $17.81/hr – $23.39/hr. Trainee: $17.19/hr.
Position Details
Position #: 19343. Location: Pease Air National Guard Base, Portsmouth, NH.
Responsibilities
Operate complex equipment and attachments (e.g., Oshkosh roll‑over plow/blower, snow blowers, Timco sweeper, snow pushers, plows, chains, etc.) for snow and ice removal on airfield, roads, and parking lots.
Maintain and repair equipment, including mounting and removing plows, chains, plow shoes, cutting blades, and performing specialized mechanical maintenance.
Operate light duty equipment (snow blowers, shovels, saws, mowers, trimmers, rakes) for grounds maintenance such as snow removal from walkways, brush cutting, tree trimming, mowing 260 acres of lawn, and 219 acres of fence line.
Deliver hands‑on training to new personnel and provide refresher training to experienced crew on snow‑removal equipment.
Assist in construction projects (sealing, patching road surfaces, maintaining concrete/asphalt pavements, cleaning catch basins, removing debris).
Collaborate with in‑house personnel or contractors for emergency repairs of base utility systems; operate dump trucks, backhoes, excavators to expose, repair, and restore underground utilities.
Perform pre‑trip vehicle inspections and safety checks; service and clean equipment as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent of 2 years of post‑high‑school education and experience, with focus on operating/maintaining snow and trail conditioning equipment (snow‑grooming tractors, bulldozers, front‑end loaders, ATVs, heavy equipment).
Valid driver’s license.
State Police record check clearance.
Good physical condition and ability to lift heavy loads.
Willingness to report to the job site or be on standby during emergency situations such as snow, inclement weather, or building emergencies. Overtime is mandatory during snow‑removal operations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience operating heavy equipment.
Knowledge of diesel‑powered equipment maintenance.
Class A or B commercial driver’s license.
Trainee Option
Applicants with 1+ year of relevant post‑high‑school education and experience may be considered for a trainee status in this position.
After‑Hire Requirements
Must pass a National Agency Check (NAC) to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) within 12 months of hire and maintain eligibility for renewal.
