Fire Safety Tech III (Fire Alarm Systems)
Location: Hanover, NH.
Pay: $35.69/hr – $36.75/hr.
Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm; Saturday and Sunday off. Onsite only. Non‑exempt, regular full‑time (40 hours per week).
Union: SEIU Level P.
Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least four years of relevant experience in fire safety systems.
Valid driver’s license and ability to comply with Dartmouth’s Approved Driver policy.
Demonstrated ability to identify, install, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm system components.
Basic knowledge of life safety codes and NFPA standards (10, 13, 25, 70, 72).
Experience with testing, maintenance, installation, analysis, and repair of all types of life safety systems.
Knowledge of fire suppression systems such as sprinklers, tamper and flow switches.
Proficiency in following schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
Skill using alarm system repair and testing tools (signal generators, voltmeters, soldering irons).
Computer skills for troubleshooting, programming fire alarm panels, and using inspection systems (Bird Dog/Asario preferred).
Strong customer service orientation, excellent problem‑solving, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Willingness to work overtime as required.
Strong knowledge of AV systems and of detailed programming of fire safety systems.
Ability to follow complex written and oral instructions and communicate effectively.
Extensive knowledge of testing systems and life safety codes.

Responsibilities
Regularly test and maintain fire alarm, annunciation, and detection systems.
Align, adjust, and calibrate equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
Replace defective wiring, pull stations, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, horns, and strobes.
Plan work details and follow schematics, wiring diagrams, or blueprints.
Set up and monitor public address systems for special events, many during off‑hours.
Diagnose malfunction causes using knowledge of functional operation of life safety systems.
Use filling station to recharge fire extinguishers.
Maintain records of repairs, calibrations, and inspections.
Support the Red Tag permit system for sprinkler systems and fire protections.
Learning and Mentoring
Receive guidance from senior technicians (Fire Safety Techs III & IV).
Assist in testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fire safety systems.
Mentor Fire Safety Techs I and II, explaining procedures and reasoning.
Working Conditions
Requires bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in cramped positions.
Regular lifting and carrying of objects up to 50 lb.
Work in indoor and outdoor environments, often in noise, dust, or smoke.
Exposed to electrical shock, burns, cuts, and chemical fumes.
Wearing protective clothing, gloves, goggles, or masks as required.
