Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is hiring entry‑level deck electricians for recent or upcoming 2026 high school graduates. A $500 sign‑on bonus and an additional $500 relocation bonus (for hires living 50+ miles from Newport News, VA) are available.

Role Overview Deck electricians install, repair, overhaul, and test electrical systems on aircraft carriers and submarines. Duties include reading complex schematics, installing lighting, receptacles, wire‑way racks, and electronic controls, performing preventative maintenance, rebuilding equipment, and welding of studs.
Work may occur in extreme weather, at heights on scaffolding or ladders, and in confined spaces such as tanks or voids. Strong focus on safety, precision, and physical agility is essential.

Must Have
18 years of age or older and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
Willing to undergo background investigation and drug screen
Pass physical agility test and lift at least 40 lbs
Perform kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, climb, and overhead work
Work daily outdoors year‑round in all weather
Work at extreme heights and in small, tight, confined spaces
Work overtime as needed and be willing to work any shift
Maintain clean shaven appearance to wear respirator
Nice to Have
High school graduate or equivalent
