Job Summary The Registered Nurse provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way, incorporating differences into the provision of care. Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum to include patient and family education. Relies on education and training to complete responsibilities within scope of licensure as registered nurse.
Minimum Requirements
At least 1 year of critical care experience
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Proficient in the English language, verbal and written communication skills, computer skills
Current Louisiana State license as RN and BLS certification; ACLS certification within 6 months
Responsibilities
Clinical Practice and Care Management
Perform psychosocial/physiologic assessments integrating changing data
Formulate a plan of care based on trends of similar patients, including patient education and discharge planning
Tailor and prioritize caring practice to individual needs, including cultural/ethical/spiritual needs
Participate in the planning of routine transitional health care needs (e.g., treatment options, patient placement options, end of life options)
Respond to changes in patient’s needs and provide holistic care using independent clinical judgment
Adapt planned educational programs and information to individual patients and family by modifying teaching strategies or content
Ensure efficiency in the delivery of care: determine immediate priorities and offer solutions for problems
Actively advocate for patient rights and identify potential conflict; seek counsel for resolution
Identify variances from expected outcomes
Evaluate patient outcomes and make revisions in the plan of care
Document all patient care activities as per documentation standards; assist the healthcare team with documentation process
Communication and Collaboration
Consistently communicate/collaborate with health care team members, patients, and families to maximize patient outcomes
Appropriately delegate patient care activities to other health care team members and participate in making and revising staff assignments to achieve maximum productivity
Maintain knowledge regarding unit initiatives and incorporate the outcomes of the team/committee work into practice
Participate on unit teams, work groups and/or committees; anticipate needs and voluntarily assist others
Quality
Demonstrate knowledge of unit based quality improvement initiatives
Participate in quality improvement initiatives by utilizing standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery
Incorporate evidence based practice and research findings into nursing practice to enhance outcomes
Professional Development
Act as a clinical resource and serve as a mentor to health care team members; display leadership behaviors
Identify own learning needs based on self‑evaluation and progress from previous year’s goals
Accountable for all documentation and completion of required continuing education and competencies relevant to area of practice as defined by clinical management
Ensure improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self‑development in life‑long learning
Provide direction and guidance to others regarding practice; serve as a resource, preceptor, and mentor
Leadership skills in critical thinking, decision‑making, and problem‑solving
Other Duties
Consistently perform 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service and Quality
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Proficient in English language, verbal and written communication skills, computer skills
Current Louisiana State license as RN and BLS certification; ACLS certification within 6 months of hire
