Position Summary:
The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) provides direct, high-quality, and compassionate care to patients presenting with urgent and emergent medical needs. This role requires critical thinking, rapid decision-making, and excellent communication skills in a fast-paced environment. The ED RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to stabilize patients, implement treatment plans, and ensure safe, patient-centered care from triage through discharge or admission. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform focused assessments and prioritize patient care based on acuity. Triage patients using established guidelines and ensure timely interventions. Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments as ordered by providers. Monitor, assess, and document changes in patient condition. Respond to emergency situations and perform life-saving measures (e.g., CPR, defibrillation, code response). Assist physicians and providers with procedures and examinations. Coordinate patient care and communicate effectively with physicians, providers, ancillary staff, and patient families. Document all aspects of patient care accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR). Provide education and discharge instructions to patients and families. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, EMTALA). Participate in continuing education and departmental meetings to maintain competencies and stay informed on best practices. Precept and mentor new staff and nursing students as assigned. Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Licensure/Certifications: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kentucky with no restrictions. BLS required ACLS, PALS, NIHSS required within 3 months TNCC required within 1 year Experience: One (1) year of RN experience preferred; emergency nursing experience highly desirable, but not required. Skills & Abilities: Strong clinical judgment and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills. Proficiency in using electronic medical records and standard ED equipment. Education Requirements (All)
Associate Degree with related experience
Certification Requirements (All)
BLS ACLS, within 3 months of hire TNCC, within 1 year of hire KY licensed RN NIHSS, within 3 months of hire PALS w/in 3 mos. of date of hire
