Mobile Diesel Technician II – Fleet Services by Cox Automotive

Location: Hopedale, MA
Duties
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, diesel steering, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems using handheld computers, pressure gauges, and other test instruments.
Conduct road tests to verify repairs and ensure proper operation.
Manage parts inventory, perform periodic reconciliations, and purchase parts from approved vendors.
Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, performing safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
Document work in Repair Orders (RO) using iOS devices and the TRAIT application, uploading pictures and parts used.
Work independently, manage daily schedule, and prioritize tasks to meet Standard Repair Times.
Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase order numbers, and RO findings.
Adhere to safety, health and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift and jacks.
Obtain DOT forms, complete documentation timely, and maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Maintain positive client relationships by listening to customers, assessing needs, and providing solutions.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED plus 3 years of related experience. Alternative qualification: any level degree or certification beyond HS, or 5 years of experience.
Possess and supply necessary hand tools required for job duties.
Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening, DOT physical, or provide a DOT medical card with >4 months remaining.
Minimum age of 21 and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Show capability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; handle moderate heavy labor.
