Position Summary: Chestnut Carbon is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to support our growing finance and accounting operations. This is a high-impact role that will play a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records as we scale our nature-based carbon removal initiatives. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for general ledger maintenance, transaction processing, reconciliations, and reporting. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional who thrives in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities: General Accounting

Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Prepare and record journal entries including accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany transactions.

Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and end-year close process.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

Process accounts payable invoices, expenses, and credit card charges in a timely and accurate manner.

Assist with invoicing, processing and reconciling deposits, receipts and disbursements.

Reporting & Compliance

Assist in the preparation of financial statements and internal management reports.

Support annual audits and tax filings by preparing requested schedules and documentation.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records, files, and documentation.

Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with other departments on special projects or routine tasks to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting.

About You:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required

2+ years of relevant accounting experience (public or private)

Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP

Experience with ERP systems, NetSuite experience is a plus

Strong Excel skills and proficiency with MS office software

High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Experience in a start-up or high-growth environment is a plus

Familiarity with carbon markets or environmental sciences is a plus

$75,000 - $85,000 a year

The base salary for this position is expected to be $75,000-$85,000, subject to the chosen candidate's experience, skills, certifications and qualifications.

All employees are eligible to participate in health insurance, and 401K plan benefits on their first day of employment. Chestnut Carbon pays 90% of the cost for employee’s health insurance and 100% of the cost for dental and vision insurance. During each fiscal year of employment, employees will be eligible to earn a discretionary annual incentive bonus, based on company and individual performance targets. The position is eligible to participate in the Company’s equity incentive program.
