DIET CLERK - FULL TIME - DAY JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute – Neptune City, New Jersey

Overview The Diet Clerk, under the direction of the Director of Food and Nutrition Department, is responsible for obtaining meal selections using the computer‑automated system, assisting in the dish room, delivering patient trays, managing floor stock, and performing other duties as assigned. The role supports patient nutrition compliance and enhances the patient care experience. Responsibilities

Assist patients in completing menu selections in compliance with prescribed diet, as assigned by dietitian.

Offer alternatives to menu as allowed on prescribed diet in accordance with food allergies or sensitivities, cultural, ethnic, and religious preferences.

Answer phone calls with excellent customer service to take patient orders in accordance with dietary restrictions.

Distribute and collect menus.

Plan regular and modified menus based on current diet manual.

Prepare and distribute supplements, tube feedings, and enteral formulas accurately and in a timely manner.

Adhere to facility confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and patient rights policies.

Comply with regulatory agency standards, including federal, state, and JCAHO.

Complete all required documentation, reports, and logs.

Follow facility and department infection control policies and procedures.

Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Effective communication and customer service skills.

Literate to read and understand printed menus and diet restrictions.

Basic knowledge of food handling techniques.

Ability to read, interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; write reports and correspondence; speak effectively before clients or team members.

Reasoning ability to apply common sense to carry out written or oral instructions and solve problems involving a few concrete variables.

Proficiency with hospital admission, discharge, transfer, and other computer‑based systems that manage patient‑care records.

Preferred Experience

One (1) year experience in food service.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting at $17.32 hourly.
